The Oakville waterfront has a lot to offer from its vast variety of shops, recreational parks and beautiful trails. Some of the main attractions are the marina, harbour pier and lighthouse. There are always different events happening at the lake.

Here are some tips on how you can plan the perfect date at the Oakville waterfront.

Start with:

1. A Long Walk.

Fall has arrived and the leaves have started to change into beautiful shades of red, yellow and orange. The best way to experience these colours is to go for a long walk. Luckily, Oakville has many heritage houses and parks located along the water. Start off your date with a stroll along King Street, taking a right on Trafalgar Road. You will find yourself at Dingle Park, George Street Park and the Lakeside Park. From here you can see the boats in the marina and the lighthouse. You may even want to skip stones across the water. If you are up for a bigger adventure you can cross the river and hike along the Waterfront Trail.

Next find a beautiful spot to relax:

2. Bring Hot Chocolate/or Plan a Picnic.

Being the intelligent person that you are you will have planned ahead. Depending on the unpredictable fall weather a picnic may or may not be an option. Either way, hot chocolate is always a safe bet. Bring hot chocolate in a thermos, two cups and some mini marshmallows. This is a great way to stay warm and keep the outing enjoyable. You can sit on a park bench or on the pier and watch the birds.

Next:

3. Visit the Museum.

Walk up to Navy Street and visit the Oakville Museum. The museum is a free way to kill some time and get out of the cold, but it will also make you look cultured. Some of the exhibits include three self-guided exhibits, Oakville’s Black History exhibit and The Underground Railroad-Next Stop Freedom! multimedia presentation.

Finally:

4. Dinner.

Depending on what you are feeling there are many restaurant options along Lakeshore Road. There are places to grab a quick bite to eat or enjoy a meal. If you are planning a special occasion you will want to make reservations (even if the place is empty it will make the date seem more official).

The Works is a gourmet burger restaurant. The creative décor and interesting food options make this restaurant perfect for a casual date.

If you want to mix things up try EE Sushi. All you can eat sushi is a fun way to try new foods and get your fix!

7 Pizzeria combines modern aesthetic and traditional Italian pizzas. Sit down for pizza, pasta and a nice glass of wine.

Go to O’Finn’s Irish Temper for dinner and live acoustics. You will find traditional pub food for reasonable prices.

Lastly remember to tip your waiter, use your manners and walk your date to the door! If you follow these four tips you will have a very successful date.

Sheridan College Mission Zero 2013

Sheridan College has started to implement their zero waste initiative. Their mission is to reduce the institution’s energy and emissions by 50% in the next 5-7 years. Sheridan hopes to go dumpster free by 2016 which seems like a rather big goal considering the Trafalgar location is an Art’s based campus. There are drafts after drafts being submitted and revised all the time. Papers are being printed, sketched on, painted and prepped. How successful do you think Sheridan College Mission Zero will be?

Have you ever wondered what goes in your Green Bin , your Recycling , your Garbage , or what to do with your other waste ? Be in the know!

Sheridan TRA2

Construction at Rez

Construction on Sheridan Trafalgar2 residence building continues well into the second week of school. Elevators have been working as of the 9th of September, but many students are still without appliances, blinds and hot water. Some students without fridges are using the AC to keep their groceries cold, while I am dreaming of a microwaved meal. I would like to reclaim my room from the many men working on the deficiencies and have a proper living space.  Don’t worry though, the completion is “two weeks” away.
